1 Dead in Westfield Crash on US 31 Involving Semi and Car

WESTFIELD, Indiana — An On Wednesday morning, a collision between a car and a semi occurred along U.S. 31 in Westfield, resulting in the death of one individual.

It was stated that the collision occurred just before seven o’clock on April 16 near the 130 mile marker, which is located just north of the 161st Street exit.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle was travelling southbound on U.S. 31 when it “crossed left over the grassy median for unknown reasons” and became involved in a collision with a semi-truck travelling northbound, according to a statement released by a representative for the Westfield Police Department.

According to the police, the driver of the automobile, who was also a man, passed away and the driver of the truck, who was also a man, was transported to a nearby hospital with injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening.

Following the closure of the northbound lanes of United States Route 31, which lasted for over seven hours, traffic was rerouted off of the highway at the 161st Street exit. At a little before two o’clock, all lanes were once again open.

There was a spokeswoman for the Westfield Police Department who stated that traffic was able to travel west on 161st Street to Oakridge Road, then north on Oakridge Road to State Road 32, and then east on State Road 32 to return to U.S. 31 during the closure.

“Our Crash Team is being extremely meticulous in their efforts to investigate the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate tragedy and deliver answers to those who have been affected by it. Captain Billy Adams of the Westfield Police Department issued a statement in which he said, “Any loss of life is devastating, and our thoughts are with those who found themselves involved.”
