10 Injured, Including Children, After SUV Crashes Into CICI’s Pizza in Mount Pleasant

Some Mount Pleasant Chapel Hill ISD children were hurt when a vehicle crashed into a CiCi’s Pizza establishment. At 12:10 p.m., Chapel Hill ISD posted on Facebook that some sixth-grade kids on a field trip inside the restaurant were hurt.

According to Mount Pleasant Police Chief Mark Buhman, ten persons were transported to the hospital, with one in severe condition.

According to a later district update, emergency responders arrived on the scene within minutes and transported the injured to adjacent medical institutions for additional treatment.

First responders, including Mount Pleasant Police Department officers, responded to the 600 block of South Jefferson Avenue.

According to the district’s report, all unhurt pupils have been reunited with their parents or returned to campus. Staff and counsellors are available to help students and families.

Mount Pleasant Police Chief Mark Buhman believes the 79-year-old driver of a Toyota 4-Runner may have backed into a pickup before reacting and driving into Cici’s. Buhman estimated that 30 to 50 students were in the restaurant, with many more outside. The SUV driver checked out fine.

According to a Mount Pleasant police news release, dispatch was contacted at 11:20 a.m. of a car colliding with a building. Six of the injured were juveniles, while four were adults.

According to the school’s website, counselors will be accessible on campus all day Friday for students and staff.

“In light of today’s events, we recognise that many members of our school community may require time and space to process their thoughts and emotions,” Mount Pleasant Chapel Hill ISD stated in part. “

We encourage families to speak with their children tonight and assure them that support will be available tomorrow and in the days ahead. As usual, our top goal is the well-being of our students, faculty, and families.
