13-Year-Old Killed in School Bus Crash to Be Laid to Rest

West Columbia, South Carolina — Jose Maria Gonzalez-Linares, 13, a student at Pine Ridge Middle School, was killed in a sad school bus accident on April 17. Funeral plans have been made for her.

Jose will be buried at the West Columbia Chapel of Caughman-Harman Funeral Home on April 22, 2013.

He was one of 35 kids who were hurt badly in an accident in Chester County on I-77.

The school bus flipped over while coming back from a field trip to Charlotte, according to the police.

Over half of the students on board were taken to the hospital with major injuries, and some had to be airlifted to get to the hospital right away.

Lexington School District Two said on Sunday that all of the children who were hurt had been sent home from the hospital.

WACH FOX talked to the parent of a kid who was on the bus when it crashed. The mother talked about how her son got out of the flipped car through a hatch in the roof.

“He did have to crawl through the front hatch of the roof because it was on the side and he saw a lot of blood and stepped in a lot of blood,” she shared.

Her son was so upset by what happened that he wouldn’t clean the blood off his shoes.

“We’re going to get a new pair, he didn’t want to wash it off in honour of his classmate,” she added.

South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster said on social media that the crash was “a tragedy that no family should have to endure.”

The crash is still being looked into by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
