MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A Homestead police officer apprehended a juvenile kid sought for attempted murder in Florida City after finding a black Glock 17 stolen from a Miami-Dade County Sheriff’s Office deputy, according to records.
According to authorities, Durrell Young, who turned 16 in January, removed the stolen Glock 17 from his left pocket and dropped it into the bushes in Homestead.
According to a police report, Young was arrested on March 7 in Homestead after being a passenger in a red 2018 Honda Accord during a police chase.
Police officers followed the Honda after responding to a report of a group of teenage males using marijuana at the Seascape Pointe Townhome Apartments, according to records.
According to records, Young was at Metrowest Detention Center on Friday afternoon, facing adult charges in two pending cases with the Homestead and Florida City police departments.
Young appeared in Miami-Dade County adult court on Friday, after correctional officials arrested him on Thursday and prosecutors filed both charges on Wednesday.
Young was charged in the Homestead case with felony firearm possession and concealment. His bond totaled $10,000.
Young was charged in the Florida City case with attempted murder with a dangerous weapon, firing a firearm from a vehicle, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The attempted murder is not a bondable felony. His bond on the remaining two offenses was $15,000. Young’s arraignment hearing in adult court is scheduled for Monday.
Laura Cruz, Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge, was scheduled to rule over both trials.
