A girl in Washington state told her parents that she didn’t believe in God. This caused a fight, and both parents are said to have been stabbed.
After the claimed attack on April 20, Easter Sunday, McKenzy Hafer, 19, was charged with two counts of attempted second-degree murder. KATU, a local ABC station, got police reports that show Benjamin Hafer, McKenzy Hafer’s father, wished his daughter a “Happy Resurrection Day.” She told him she didn’t believe in God. Reports say they got into a verbal fight and then went to different places in the house.
Erin Hetzler, McKenzy Hafer’s mother, allegedly got into a verbal argument with her daughter when she told her about the comment.
Local CBS affiliate KOIN reported that McKenzy Hafer wished her father a “Happy Resurrection Day” in return. However, Hetzler asked her daughter about the conversation. These are the parts of the papers that show the argument turned violent.
The mother of McKenzy Hafer came into the room where she was cooking to ask about the fight between her and her father. It wasn’t clear what happened next, but the documents said that the verbal argument turned physical when McKenzy Hafer apparently got so angry that she threw her phone to the ground.
After that, Benjamin Hafer came in and asked what happened to the phone. The police report says that McKenzy Hafer then took out a kitchen knife and stabbed her dad in the stomach “with the intent to kill him.” Then, McKenzy Hafer is said to have stabbed her mother in the throat with the same knife “with the intent to kill her.”
McKenzy’s brother Dakota Hafer was also in the house at the time, but he wasn’t involved in the claimed attack.
When the police questioned McKenzy Hafer, her story of the claimed attack fit with what they knew about her parents’ injuries. It is believed that both parents will live.
There were two counts of attempted murder in the second degree against McKenzy Hafer. She was jailed on $500,000 bail. The next time she has to go to court is May 5.
