ROUND ROCK, Texas – The victim of the fatal 10-vehicle collision on I-35 in Round Rock on Monday has been identified by the police as 35-year-old Alexa White of Fort Cavazos.
The Round Rock Police Department reported that White was declared deceased at the scene of the 10-vehicle pileup, which took place near RM 620 at approximately 11:40 a.m. Three additional individuals were transported to nearby hospitals after sustaining minor injuries.
A preliminary investigation suggests that a northbound vehicle abruptly changed lanes, colliding with another vehicle and inciting a chain reaction. According to law enforcement, the collision necessitated that a dump vehicle traverse the concrete median and collide with southbound traffic.
“It is a dreadful situation, particularly because you are not anticipating being involved in an accident and witnessing a man’s death,” stated Juan Vazquez, one of the drivers involved in the collision. Vazquez managed to escape with minor injuries.
The incident is the second fatal pileup on the I-35 corridor in less than two weeks, following an 18-vehicle collision in North Austin that resulted in the deaths of five individuals earlier this month.
According to the Texas Department of Transportation, all northbound and southbound lanes were reopened by 5:30 p.m.
The accident continues to be the subject of an investigation. Detective Obinna Nwachukwu is requesting that anyone with information contact her at onwachukwu@roundrocktexas.gov or 512-671-2896.
