A 36-year-old Maryland man died Monday in a multi-vehicle crash on U.S. Route 322, according to the Centre County Coroner’s Office. Junior Rodriguez Rivera, of Halethorpe, Maryland, died from blunt force trauma sustained during the crash, according to Centre County Deputy Coroner Debra Smeal. His death was declared an accident.
Police were called to the incident just before 6:30 a.m. Monday in the 5700 block of Mount Nittany Expressway (U.S. Route 322) near Boalsburg. Following the crash, Rivera was taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.

According to a press release from the State College Police Department, Rivera was driving his Chevrolet pickup westbound on the highway when he strayed into the eastbound lane and collided with a tractor-trailer.
Following the original incident, the tractor-trailer re-entered the westbound lane and collided with two additional cars. State College police reported that the driver of the tractor-trailer, as well as the drivers of the two other vehicles involved, were taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center.
Everyone was treated and released. A stretch of U.S. Route 322 was closed for almost five hours Monday morning due to the incident, which occurred between State Route 45 and the Oak Hall/Lemont exit.
Police requested anyone with information on the crash to call them at 814-234-7150.
