The OSAA state track and field championships finished Saturday afternoon with outstanding performances all across Hayward Field. Among the medal winners were numerous two- and three-sport standouts, including these football players who’ll return to the gridiron in August.
Trey Bayes, Adrian, sophomore
The starting quarterback for the 1A eight-man state champions showed off his arm on the javelin runway, finishing fourth with a throw of 159 feet, 2 inches.
Jayden Churchwell, Yoncalla, junior
Churchwell, a first-team all-league receiver for the Eagles, won the 1A state title in the high jump (clearing 6-5.5) and placed sixth in the long and triple jumps.
EJ Cozart, Jefferson, junior
One of the more electric receivers in the PIL and a first-team all-league selection came to Hayward and beat a talented field of 6A long jumpers with a personal-best leap of 22-11.25.
Caden Druliner, Silverton, sophomore
Druliner took over placekicking duties for the Foxes last fall, earning all-league honorable mention, but he showed off his athleticism by clearing a personal-best 6-6.25 to finish second in the 5A high jump.
Deryk Farmer, Cascade Christian, junior
The two-way 3A all-state selection at linebacker and quarterback for the Challengers swept the 100- and 200-meter titles, took second in the long jump and anchored the second-place 4×100 relay.
Alex Fiannaca, Cascade Christian, junior
The second-team 3A all-state defensive lineman won two silver medals over the weekend, finishing second in the javelin and leading off the 4×100 relay.
Quin Gohr, Astoria, junior
The 4A state champion in the 400 and sixth-place finisher in the javelin was a jack-of-all-trades for the Fisherman on the gridiron, switching between quarterback and receiver.
Tanner Hackett, Westview, junior
Hackett was a swing interior lineman for the Wildcats last season who finished fourth in the 6A discus Friday.
Brogan Hedgepeth, La Grande, sophomore
Hedgepeth was an honorable mention all-Greater Oregon League pick (19 tackles, 3 for loss) for the Tigers who had a breakout season in the ring this spring, finishing second in the discus and third in the shot put at the 4A meet.
Ryder Jackson, Seaside, junior
Jackson flashed the speed that made him an 1,110-yard rusher for the Seagulls last fall as he finished second in the 4A 100 and 200 finals.
Joseph Janney, Henley, junior
The runner who beat Jackson in both races? Just the quarterback of the 4A state champions in 2023 and last year’s runner-up who also ran legs on the third-place 4×100 and 4×400 relays.
Will Johnson, Siuslaw, junior
Johnson, who led the Vikings with 877 rushing yards and was a two-way 3A all-state selection, took four medals home to the South Coast, placing third in the pole vault and triple jump, eighth in the long jump and leading off the seventh-place 4×100.
Madoxx Martinez, Harper, sophomore
One of the leading rushers on a Hornets team that reached the 1A six-man final finished third in the 400.
Asher Maxwell, Dayton, junior
The two-way all-PacWest first-team selection ran for 1,338 yards in the Pirates wing-T in the fall and leaped to a third-place finish in the 3A long jump.
Cade Mitchell, Mountainside, junior
Mitchell led the Mavericks to the 6A Open quarterfinals as a second-team all-Metro League quarterback, and he flashed his talented arm with a 181-11 throw to place fourth in the javelin.
Kaleb Moore, Junction City, junior
The second-team all-league offensive tackle won medals in all three throws at the 4A meet, including a title in the shot put to go with third place in the discus and fifth in the javelin.
C.D. Nuno, Philomath, junior
One of the top receivers in 4A (71 catches for 1,092 yards and 13 touchdowns) placed seventh in the 200 and ran legs on the eighth-place 4×100 and 4×400 relays.
Justin Parsons, Caldera, sophomore
The backup offensive lineman and linebacker for the Wolfpack finished third in the 5A long jump and sixth in the triple jump.
Wyatt Parsons, Weston-McEwen, junior
Parsons, who played receiver and defensive back for the TigerScots in the fall, won the 2A title in the long jump, took second in the 100 and placed eighth in the 200.
Josiah Peters, Philomath, junior
The honorable mention all-league linebacker for the Warriors finished second in the 4A javelin.
Silvestre Rico, Adrian, junior
Rico played several roles for the 1A eight-man champions and won silver medals in three events over the weekend — long jump, triple jump and 4×100.
Braxton Singleton, North Salem, junior
One of the
state’s top recruits in the class of 2026
shined in his first trip to Hayward Field, blocking out the chaos swirling around him in the 6A 110 hurdles final to take home the title.
Colin Smith, Oregon City, sophomore
The speedster, who was an honorable mention all-Three Rivers selection at kick returner and cornerback, ran the third leg of the 6A state champion 4×100 that earlier in the year broke the state record. He also placed third in the 200 and second in the 400.
Cade Siewert, South Medford, junior
The all-SCFC honorable mention defensive back placed third in the 6A triple jump.
Scottland Telesa, Aloha, sophomore
The two-way all-NWOC lineman threw a personal-best 53-9.5 to take second in the 6A shot put while also placing seventh in the discus.
Preston Temple, Ridgeview, sophomore
The swing lineman for the Ravens came up big at the 5A meet, throwing a personal-best 147 feet to take third in the discus.
Kol Tolan, Taft, junior
The 3A all-state receiver (56 catches for 896 yards and 10 touchdowns) won the fifth-place finish in the long jump.
Logan Uitto, Silverton, junior
Uitto, who made the all-league team at three positions (receiver, safety and kick returner) for the 5A semifinalist Foxes, placed sixth in the 110 hurdles.
Carter Wachs, Redmond, sophomore
Wachs led the Panthers JV in catches, yards per catch and touchdowns last season, and he’ll play a bigger role this fall after earning the title of fastest boy in 5A, winning the 100 state title while also placing second in the 200, anchoring the runner-up 4×100 and running third on the eighth-place 4×400.
Gavin Williams, Madras, junior
The 3A all-state honorable mention defensive back garnered three medals over the weekend, running a leg on the second-place 4×100 while placing third in the long jump and sixth in the triple jump.
Roanin Wright, Henley, junior
The all-Big Sky honorable mention linebacker made the final in the 4A 300 hurdles, placing eighth.
