A Multnomah County sheriff’s deputy shot and wounded a man in
Northeast Portland
Friday evening,
police
said.
Portland police said the wounded man was taken to the hospital, and no officers or deputies were injured. The shooting took place in the 4600 block of Northeast 116th Avenue, near Prescott Street and close to Parkrose High School.
Authorities are at the scene investigating the incident. Police said Northeast Sandy Boulevard is closed between Northeast 112th and 118th avenues. Northeast 116th Avenue is also closed between Sandy and Prescott Street.
Portland police spokesperson Sgt. Kevin Allen said Portland officers were responding to a report of suspicious circumstances involving a weapon. The deputy, Allen said, happened to be in the area and stopped to help.
Allen said the shooting happened in the street. The East County Major Crimes Team is assisting Portland detectives in the investigation.
Police did not share the condition of the injured man, and it’s not clear how many times the deputy fired shots. No additional information was immediately available.
