Rowena, the Columbia River community where
a wildfire has destroyed homes
and forced evacuations, is east of Mosier and west of The Dalles.
It is located in Wasco County, where the Sheriff’s Office issued a Level 3 (go now) evacuation order Wednesday afternoon for people living by Rowena River Ferry Road, a stretch of Interstate 84 and U.S. 30 to Discovery Road.
Rowena is an unincorporated community of just over 100 residents, according to the latest census figures. It is about 5 miles west of the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center & Museum.
The community is across the Columbia River from Doug’s Beach State Park in Washington.
