‘We just can’t escape it’: Mounting tariffs push another Portland toy store to close

When Caroline Rodrigues opened her independent toy store in Portland in 2022, the toy business already appeared to be in dire straits.

She claimed that after temporarily closing the store’s flagship in Los Angeles during the epidemic, she returned a year later to discover that consumer behavior had changed. Due to high inflation, customers became reluctant to purchase, and brick and mortar traffic decreased.
