Former Central Catholic Ram is happy to represent Aloha in Les Schwab Bowl

Family and football.

They go hand in hand for Bobby Blanchet.

In fact, Blanchet made the decision to drastically alter his football-related life due to family.

Blanchet, who helped the Rams go 11-1 on the season while playing football at Central Catholic this past fall as a junior, will complete his high school education at Aloha.

Blanchet stated, “I just transferred, second semester.”

That’s for a very good reason.

There’s my younger brother. Blanchet remarked, “Luca is my little brother.” Since this year will be my senior year, I wanted to play with him. It will be pleasant to play with him for a year. Additionally, my younger brother will be a freshman.

Although Blanchet is excited to play with the Warriors and his brother this fall, he will first have the opportunity to represent Aloha on Friday when he will play for Team Columbia in the Les Schwab Bowl, a high school football all-star game that will take place at Lewis & Clark College in Portland and feature many of the best players from southwest Washington and the state of Oregon.

Coming from a tiny town, it means a lot, said Blanchet, who will play receiver for Team Columbia versus Team Willamette on Friday. Coming out here and competing against the best is a genuine pleasure.

Alongside his younger brother, Luca Blanchet, who will be a junior defensive back and receiver for the Warriors, the 5-foot-10, 170-pound Blanchet is excited to play at Aloha this fall.

“For me, it’s a big family thing,” Bobby Blanchet stated.

Aloha finished 3-4 in Class 5A Special District 1 play and 5-4 overall last season. With 10 receptions for 146 yards and a touchdown in a thrilling 28-21 victory over Forest Grove, Luca Blanchet enjoyed a fantastic sophomore season for the Warriors.

Bobby Blanchet grinned like a proud big brother and remarked, “He had a great game.”

Now, the elder brother is looking forward to his opportunity to lead the Warriors.

I can’t wait to perform at Aloha. “It will be enjoyable,” Blanchet stated. This year, we’re going to be excellent. This year, we have many young men heading to junior high and many excellent seniors. There are a few more transfers.

He also draws inspiration from a former Aloha standout.

Tanner Volk was present. According to Blanchet, he attended Central Washington and is currently with the Seahawks, attempting to secure a roster position. He is an excellent safety, and I also play safety. Therefore, representing him and the squad will be pleasant.

Blanchet went on to say that he is having fun playing for Aloha and preparing for the Les Schwab Bowl game on Friday.

It has been excellent. “Meeting new people has been a pleasant experience,” Blanchet added. So far, it’s been a great experience getting to know everyone and strengthening team bonds.

The Brayden Bafaro Scholarship Fund, the Oregon Athletic Coaches Association general scholarship fund, and other youth organizations will also profit from this year’s Les Schwab Bowl.

Though it will only be the fourth game that isn’t a North vs. South match, Friday’s game will be the 77th in the series. Rather, players were selected by the coaching staffs of Team Columbia, led by Aaron Hazel of Nelson, and Team Willamette, led by Dominic Ferraro of Tualatin. The last three games played in this style have been won by Team Columbia, including a 39-26 triumph last year.

On Friday, gates will open at 4 p.m., and there will be food carts and a wine and beer garden available. The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.

Online ticket sales for the game are available at lesschwabbowl.com/tickets, with prices starting at $15.75 (general admission is $21).
