Teen Gives Birth in Walmart Bathroom, Texas Father Arrested After Baby Dumped in Trash

After his daughter allegedly gave birth to a baby in a Walmart lavatory, a 45-year-old Texas man found himself in jail.

Later, the infant was declared dead.

On Monday, just before 10:30 p.m., Walmart staff discovered a newborn in a toilet trash can and contacted the Kingsville Police Department.

According to authorities, the infant was taken to a nearby hospital while staff worked to save his life. According to a news release, doctors declared the baby deceased.

Police viewed CCTV footage that showed a 17-year-old girl entering the lavatory. According to the cops, she walked to her car in the parking lot after spending almost forty minutes inside. It took almost half an hour for the staff to locate the infant.

Officers stopped the kid when they saw her car at about 11 p.m. According to the press release, the girl was taken by paramedics to the hospital, where she is undergoing treatment.

Jerry Lee Martinez, 45, the girl’s father, was taken into custody by police on suspicion of criminal negligence and abandoning/endangering a child. He is not on bond at the Kleberg County Jail.

The teenager is still in the hospital, and when she is freed, authorities will question her.

Whether the baby was alive at birth or how they died were not mentioned in the press release. Police say there will be more details soon.

“We extend our deepest condolences to all affected by this tragic event,” said the police.

Police are still looking into the event. The distance between Kingsville to Corpus Christi is roughly 45 miles southwest.

A newborn under 60 days old may be dropped off at a designated emergency infant care provider in Texas under the newborn Moses Law, sometimes referred to as the Safe Haven Law.
