Oregon State Beavers All-Quarter-Century team nominees: Defensive ends


The Oregonian/OregonLive has compiled a list of nominees for an Oregon State Beavers All-Quarter-Century football team made up of players from 2000 through 2024. The final teams will be selected in August.

Victor Butler


Years:

2005-2008

.


Records:

Butler’s 21.5 tackles for loss in 2008 rank second in OSU history. Five came in one game (vs. Pittsburgh), which ranks second all-time.

Butler recorded 12 sacks in 2008 (tied for second at OSU and 10½ sacks in 2007 (tied for eighth).

He ranks fifth at OSU with 40 tackles for loss. His 25½ sacks rank second at OSU and 10th in the conference since 2005.


Accolades/accomplishments:

Butler was named first-team All-Pac-10 in 2008.


NFL career:

A fourth-round pick in 2009, Butler spent five seasons with the Dallas Cowboys. He produced 91 tackles with 11 sacks in 65 games.

Scott Crichton


Years:

2011-2013

.


Records:

Crichton’s 19 tackles for loss in 2013 rank sixth and his 17.5 in 2012 rank tied for ninth.

His 51 career tackles for loss rank fourth at OSU and tied for third in the conference since 2005. He racked up 22½ career sacks, which ranks third at OSU.

Crichton is tied for the program lead with six forced fumbles in 2011. He leads the program in 10 career forced fumbles.

Over three seasons, Crichton racked up 165 tackles and nine passes defended.


Accolades/accomplishments:

Crichton was named first-team All-Conference in both 2012 and 2013, after being named honorable mention in 2011.

Crichton garnered All-America honors from several publications during his career

NFL:

He played two seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, appearing in 21 games.

DeLawrence Grant


Years:

1999-2000.


Records:

A junior college transfer, Grant ended up being a huge piece to the 2000 team that defeated Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl.

Grant’s four forced fumbles that season rank tied for third in program history. He holds the program record with three against San Diego State during the 2000 season.


Accolades/accomplishments:

Grant was named first-team All-Pac-10 in 2000 after producing 41 tackles, 13 for loss and seven sacks. Grant was named a

second-team All-American by The Sporting News in 2000

.


NFL:

A third-round pick in 2001, Grant

played five seasons with the Oakland Raiders

and made 27 starts in 49 appearances.

LaDairis Jackson


Years:

1999-2000

.


Records:

Jackson, playing opposite Grant, also came up huge for the Beavers in 2000.

Jackson’s 21 tackles for loss that season rank tied for third all-time. His 11½ sacks rank tied for fourth.

Jackson finished his two-year career at OSU with 27 tackles for loss (16th) and 15½ sacks (eighth).

In 1999, Jackson had 37 tackles with six sacks and broke up four passes.


Accolades/accomplishments:

Grant was named honorable mention all-conference in 2000.


NFL:

Jackson played one season with Washington.

Slade Norris


Years:

2006-2008

Records:

Out of Jesuit High School, Norris had nine sacks in 2007 then came back with 10 the following season, which ranks ninth all-time.

His 18½ tackles for loss rank seventh and his 19 career sacks rank fifth. Norris had 28½ tackles for loss, ranked 15th.


Accolades/accomplishments:

He was named honorable mention All-Pac-10 in 2008.


NFL:

The Oakland Raiders selected Norris in the fourth round of the 2009 NFL draft. He spent one season with the Raiders and another with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Jeff Van Orsow


Years:

2005-2007

.


Records:

Van Orsow finished his career with 29½ tackles for loss, which ranks tied for 11th in OSU history.

As a senior, Van Orsow produced 43 tackles with 7½ for loss. His best season came in 2006 when he had 48 tackles, 10½ for loss, with three sacks.


Accolades/accomplishments:

Van Orsow was named honorable mention all-conference in 2006.


NFL:

He did not play in the NFL.

Bill Swancutt


Years:

2002-2004

.


Records:

Swancutt virtually rewrote the defensive record books at OSU during his career.

He is the all-time leader in career sacks at 37. He also leads with 59½ tackles for loss.

He owns three of the top 11 seasons in the category of tackles for loss. His 21 in 2002 ranks tied for third. His 18 in 2004 ranks eighth and his 17½ in 2003 are tied for ninth.

Swancutt posted 11½ sacks in three consecutive seasons. Those marks are tied for fourth best in program history.

His career seven forced fumbles rank tied for third.

named first-team All-Pac-10 in both 2003 and 2004.


NFL:

A sixth-round pick in 2005, Swancutt played one season with the Detroit Lions.

Dorian Smith


Years:

2006-2007

Records:

Smith’s 15 career sacks rank ninth in program history.

He also ended his career with 72 tackles, with 22 for loss.


Accolades/accomplishments:

Smith was named first-team All-Pac-10 in 2007.


NFL:

Smith did not play in the NFL but spent three seasons in the CFL.

Dylan Wynn


Years:

2011-2014

.


Records:

Wynn’s 44 career starts are tied for 10th in program history.


In 2011, he recorded an OSU record five fumbles. His eight in that category are tied for No. 1.

Wynn ended his career with 214 tackles, 25 for loss and 7½ sacks.


Accolades/accomplishments:

Wynn was named second-team All-conference in 2014.

Wynn was named a freshman All-American in 2011

NFL:

Wynn did not appear in an NFL game but did play in the CFL.
