Despite being away from the program as Oregon begins fall camp, Ducks receiver Evan Stewart is anticipated to return to Eugene at some time.
Stewart has been undergoing physical rehabilitation in Miami after undergoing surgery to repair his ruptured right patellar tendon.
Stewart won’t stay in Florida for the entire fall, according to Oregon coach Dan Lanning, who plans to bring him back to Eugene.
In 2024, Stewart caught 48 passes for 613 yards and five touchdowns. Although it’s uncertain if he will, he has the option to apply for a medical hardship waiver for an extra year of eligibility in addition to being able to redshirt.
Seniors Malik Benson and Gary Bryant Jr. are among the four other ten scholarship recipients from Oregon who are upperclassmen.
Benson, whose 25 receptions for 311 yards and a touchdown versus Florida State last season rank highest among this year’s receiving corps, said, “It’s very sad to see your brother go down, but I will say that as receivers that made everybody have to step up.”
After a season cut short by injuries in 2024, Bryant is assuming the role of head coach of a youthful receiving room.
It’s mentally exhausting when you can’t go out with the boys and do what you love every day, so I try to be there for him, Bryant added. He has been doing well during his recovery, so let’s hope he recovers quickly and rejoins the boys. He was undoubtedly a valuable member of this team the previous season, but we can’t focus on setbacks because he’s the next one up. Be prepared for the opportunity when your number and play are called.
According to quarterback Dante Moore, who pointed out that the team’s youth and inexperience are naturally creating a competition entering camp, whomever takes advantage of the additional opportunities over the next month might become one of the new top targets.
Moore remarked, “We might as well get used to getting those players out there and playing.” Naturally, a major component of this offense is E-Stew. To ensure we get there, though, I believe we also have other playmakers.
