DC Faces Cold Front NWS Predicts Gusty Winds and Possible Snowfall

Washingtonians might want to keep their jackets handy as the National Weather Service (NWS) forecasts a mostly cloudy day with a brisk high of 46 degrees.

The southwest winds are set to shift west in the afternoon, and if you’re stepping out, you may find yourself bracing against gusts that could reach up to 22 mph. By nightfall, the clouds linger, with temperatures dipping around the 29-degree mark and the wind settling down to just a whisper.

Citizens looking forward to the week ahead can anticipate a slight reprieve from the chill.

Tomorrow promises mostly sunny skies and a similar high in the mid-40s, with a light southwest breeze picking up momentum to reach 9 mph by morning. According to the NWS, Tuesday’s sun will battle with passing clouds, flirting with a high near 48 degrees. The west wind, however, should not be taken lightly, as it will gust up to 25 mph during these otherwise fair-weather days.

As the city moves mid-week, Wednesday holds a promise of mild warmth with a high soaring to 54 degrees under mostly sunny skies.

However, as the weekend approaches, residents should gear up to possibly contend with some wintery mix. Friday harbors a 30% chance of rain and snow, though the sun is expected still to make an appearance, pushing temperatures back up near 46 degrees.

The NWS forecasts that Friday night and Saturday will to potentially follow suit, each with a 30% chance of precipitation and lows in the lower 30s, highs taking a slight step up on Saturday to 47 degrees.
