HAMILTON, Ala. — This week, the temperature is likely to drop again in north Alabama. In some places, it might not get above freezing for days on end.
Some people said they were ready for the cold weather that was going to come this week since this isn’t the first one of the season.
Richard Lee, who has lived in Hamilton for five years, said, “We’ve been ready.” “We have lots of clothes, heat, and other things for it.”
Lee said he doesn’t worry much about winter weather and just stays home with his family when the roads get bad.
“The first year we were here, the road was frozen over with snow on top of it, and we were fine,” Lee said. It “didn’t go anywhere with it.”
Antwon Smith is brand new to this town. He just moved from New York to Alabama two weeks ago. He doesn’t think this cold is a big deal.
Smith said, “I’m used to it.” “Let it happen.”
Smith said that keeping other people warm is more important to him than getting around in snow or ice.
Smith said, “I worry about people who can’t get around.” “Those things they might need out here, like food and other things.” I feel bad for the people who have to work and walk through that.
The Marion County Emergency Management Agency said that warming centers are only opened when they are needed. Blake Farley, the director, said he’s glad they haven’t had to open them yet in 2025.
For the most part, Farley said, “we don’t have to unless we have a lot of power outages because of heavy ice.” “We don’t have to open the warming stations very often.” But we would need them right away if we didn’t have them.
Farley said to keep in mind the four Ps: people, pets, pipes, and plants when it’s cold for a long time.
This is what Farley said: “Everything we do at EMA could not be done without the help of the community.” “That doesn’t matter what it is; getting ready before, during, and after the event.” No matter if it’s a winter event, winter weather, severe weather, or the recent floods caused by the heavy rains. The whole town, even the whole county, needs to work together to make sure everyone is safe and ready.
According to the Marion County EMA, the Marion County Public Safety app is the best way to stay up to date on weather-related news.
