The Death of the Los Angeles News Reporter Was Ruled an Accident

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner said Wednesday that KCAL-TV evening news reporter Chauncy Glover died of “acute intoxication” from methamphetamine and chloroethane. The death was ruled an accident.

On November 5, Glover, 39, was found dead in his home. The Alabama native was declared dead just after midnight by medical staff.

The examination was done by a deputy medical examiner on November 6. A statement said that the cause of death was proved on Wednesday after tests and studies were done.

The CDC says that chloroethane is a colorless gas with a “characteristically sharp odor” that is stable at room temperature. It is used to make dyes, solvents, and coolants. It is also used to numb the skin before medical treatments like piercings and skin biopsies and to treat injuries from sports.

When overused or inhaled, it can make you feel temporarily drunk or dizzy, and the CDC says it can even kill you by accident.

By the end of March, the full report from the Medical Examiner should be out.

Glover joined the news team at KCAL-TV from KTRK-TV in Houston in 2023. He has won three Emmys. In his TV career, he also worked as a host at WDIV-TV in Detroit, WJAX-TV in Jacksonville, and WTVM-TV in Columbus, Georgia.

During that time, his friends and family did not say anything about how he died. But a friend and agent put out a statement.

Dean told Chauncy, “He was more than just a great reporter and community leader; he was like family.” “In everything he did, Chauncy showed a rare and real kindness.” He helped others because he wanted the best for everyone around him and didn’t expect anything in return.

Glover started the Chauncy Glover Project while he was living in Houston. It is a mentoring program for young boys from inner cities run by “accomplished gentlemen.”
