FREMONT COUNTY, Colo. – A man in Fremont County was charged with poisoning six chihuahua puppies on Wednesday.
The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office reported Animal Control Deputies discovered that 50-year-old John Kessler of Canon City poisoned six chihuahua puppies with antifreeze.
Deputies said the six puppies were impounded and sent to a Canon City veterinarian clinic for treatment.
Deputies say a subsequent investigation revealed another dog at the home who was “severely emaciated.” They also reported they discovered a jug of antifreeze in the kitchen.
Kessler faces six counts of aggravated cruelty to animals and one offense of cruelty to animals (neglect). Deputies reported he had been booked into the Fremont County Detention Centre.
As of Thursday, deputies reported Kessler had already been released on a $1,000 personal recognizance bond.
