WILLIAMS, AZ – Authorities are attempting to identify additional human remains in the wreckage of three automobiles on Interstate 40 on March 13.
On Monday, the Arizona Department of Public Safety and Coconino County Sheriff’s Office stated that one of the vehicles involved in the incident near Williams was a BMW SUV, and that further human remains had been located.
Several crashes occurred in Arizona’s high country during recent winter storms, according to the DPS.
ABC15 previously covered one of the crashes that occurred in Williams, Arizona. The incident involved 13 passenger vehicles, five commercial vehicles, and several detached trailers.

At the time, officials said that two individuals had died and 16 others were hurt in the incident.
Six days after the collision, the CCSO revealed that they were seeking for a family of three who had been reported missing after visiting the Grand Canyon. Their rented vehicle, a BMW, was last seen driving along I-40 on the same day as the previous crash. It is unclear whether this BMW is one of the 22 vehicles involved in the Williams tragedy, or if it is a separate crashed vehicle.
Authorities are investigating if the remains found in the wreckage are those of the missing family.
Officials said that because of the amount of the destruction, identifying the bodies will necessitate a “meticulous examination.” The Yavapai County Examiner’s Office is currently seeking to identify the remains.
