Four people accused of stealing cigarettes from a delivery truck outside a Pleasant Hill 7-Eleven shop were detained Thursday after a chase that took officials to Antioch.
Pleasant Hill police said officers were dispatched to the shop at 601 Patterson Boulevard shortly after 2:20 p.m. on complaints of a robbery in progress.
Officers stated two drivers were making a planned delivery to the store when the suspects stole many cartons of cigarettes from the rear of their truck. Before police arrival, the suspects fled the area in a stolen vehicle.
Police stated that no firearms were utilized in the theft. There were no injuries recorded.
Following the theft, officers tracked the vehicle down on Highway 4 near Concord. A police aircraft followed the vehicle to Antioch.
According to Pleasant Hill police, the vehicle stopped near Fremont Elementary School.
In a separate statement, Antioch police claimed the motorist hit a fence near “F” Street and 13th. The suspects then left the location on foot.
Pleasant Hill cops were on the scene shortly thereafter. All four suspects were apprehended with assistance from Contra Costa County sheriff’s deputies and Antioch police.
Police did not divulge the suspects’ identities.
