BRIMFIELD TWP. – A tractor-trailer rolled onto its side near State Route 43 in Brimfield Township on Tuesday morning, closing Interstate 76 westbound for more than four hours.
According to an Ohio State Highway Patrol media release, the collision occurred around 6:45 a.m. when the westbound tractor-trailer traveled off the left side of the highway and into the grass median, overturned, impacted the cable median barrier, and came to rest on its side across both westbound lanes.
There were no other automobiles engaged. Images from the incident showed that the car was an Amazon lorry, with some of its goods spilled on the highway.
According to the Ohio Highway Patrol, EMS sent the truck’s driver, a 37-year-old Illinois male, to Summa Akron City Hospital for minor injuries.

Brimfield police issued an alert at bout 8:35 a.m., stating that eastbound traffic was also halted, however, OHP Ravenna Post dispatch reported that both sides of the roadway had reopened by late morning.
The OHP stated the crash is still under investigation, but the driver has been charged with failure to retain reasonable control.
The Brimfield Fire Department, Ohio Department of Transportation, and Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Commercial Enforcement Section all assisted at the scene of the incident.
