Semi Driver Killed in Fiery Crash on Florida’s Turnpike in St. Lucie County

ST. LUCIE COUNTY, Fla. – A semi driver was killed Tuesday night after colliding with another vehicle on Florida’s Turnpike in St. Lucie County.

According to a post on the St. Lucie County Fire District’s Facebook page, the accident occurred around 11:25 p.m. near Port St. Lucie Boulevard exit 142.

Officials say the semi was towing a tandem trailer when it collided with a concrete rail, perhaps scratching the bridge’s bottom. The tractor-trailer also collided with a smaller vehicle.

The driver of the semi, whose name has not been revealed, was pronounced dead on the spot.

Another victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Their condition has not been revealed.

The fire district also reported that workers battled to contain 100 gallons of fuel that spilled from the semi.

The incident caused the northbound and southbound lanes to be closed overnight as emergency workers and law officers responded.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the accident.
