MIAMI – A 31-year-old man is facing abduction charges after police say he pushed his girlfriend into an SUV outside a Miami petrol station and drove away last month. The incident was apparently caused by a refused food order.
According to the arrest record, Miami police officers responded to a call at 2 p.m. on March 18 at the Westar gas station, 3201 NW 36th St.
A witness reported seeing a guy, identified by police as 31-year-old Herbert Lamar McCrea of Miami Gardens, grab the woman, shove her into a red Cadillac SUV, and drive westbound on Northwest 36th Street.
The witness photographed the SUV’s license plate, which investigators say they later used to locate McCrea. Detectives said they also studied security video from the petrol station, which revealed additional information regarding the incident.
They said the video showed McCrea arriving at the petrol station shortly after 1:30 p.m. and parking at one of the pumps.
Moments later, police claimed he exited the truck and entered the business, picking up a few goods before waiting at the checkout register.
Meanwhile, the victim, who had been pumping gas outside, entered the store and proceeded to the back, where there was a small restaurant, according to the report.
Shortly later, police reported that McCrea was seen walking towards the back of the business to join the woman.
Police said the victim left the petrol station just before 2 p.m. and was standing near the front door when McCrea began ranting at her.
According to the allegation, surveillance footage shows McCrea racing towards the woman, physically seizing her and pulling her back to the red Cadillac.
According to investigators, he then shoved her into the front passenger seat before climbing in himself. They claimed that after sitting in the passenger seat, he climbed into the driver’s seat and sped away.
Hours later, at around 7:15 p.m., the BSO’s V.I.P.E.R. (Violence Intervention Proactive Enforcement Response) unit discovered the SUV parked near the 400 block of Northwest 87th Lane in Plantation.
According to police, the victim was later interviewed by detectives and provided an account of what occurred.
According to investigators, she told police that the altercation between her and McCrea began when a food transaction at the petrol station was refused. After the transaction was denied, police said McCrea grabbed her arm, shoved her into the vehicle, and drove away.
She also claimed that McCrea worsened the situation because he wanted to drive the automobile, which she did not want him to, according to police.
The victim was later presented a photo lineup and recognised McCrea as the culprit, according to the report.
On Thursday, detectives said they found McCrea and arrested him. He was taken to a police station for questioning, where he was told his Miranda rights.
Investigators claimed McCrea agreed to talk with them and acknowledged to a verbal confrontation with his girlfriend, but the specifics of his confession were censored from the publicly available report.
According to jail records, McCrae faces one count of kidnapping.
As of Friday, he was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Centre, and his bond was reported as “to be set.”
