Dallas Girl, 4, Shot by Another Child After Gaining Access to Gun, Police Say

DALLAS – A 4-year-old child was shot Monday morning in southern Dallas at a guarded apartment complex, according to officials.

At before 10 a.m., police responded to the 4700 block of Meadow Street, where they discovered a youngster had been shot. When authorities arrived, they discovered the small child had been injured and had already been transported to a local hospital.

The family identified the daughter as 4-year-old A’Ziyah Donelson and informed WFAA that she was undergoing surgery.

According to investigators, early evidence suggests that the youngster was shot by another small child who had gained access to a pistol. The details of how the weapon was obtained remain unknown.

DPD has not revealed information regarding the children’s relationship or who owns the pistol.

The family told WFAA that there were teens inside the house during the incident, including several in their early twenties. According to DPD sources, the juveniles and young adults are currently being questioned.

Neighbors call A’Ziyah a “sweet girl” and say they’re hoping for her health.

“It is a kid. It’s sad. I can’t image what would happen if someone in my family went through this. Their family must be devastated right now,” a neighbor told WFAA.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
