‘I Killed Him—and the Dog’: Man on Spiritual Fast Makes Shocking Confession After Double Killing

A 34-year-old man in Wisconsin is facing a series of serious charges after allegedly murdering his addiction sponsor in a brutal knife attack, claiming he was on a “spiritual fast” at the time and believed the world was ending.

James C. Dorr Jr. is accused of fatally stabbing 60-year-old “D.V.” — a man who was reportedly trying to help him through recovery — nearly 30 times inside the victim’s Green Bay apartment. Dorr also allegedly killed the man’s beloved white poodle, “Benji,” during the same violent outburst.

The horrific incident unfolded on the evening of January 28, 2025, in a quiet apartment complex on Capitol Drive. Police were called after the victim’s ex-wife grew concerned when she couldn’t reach him and decided to check on him in person. What she discovered was every family member’s worst nightmare — her ex-husband lying in a pool of blood, already gone, and Dorr fleeing the scene.

Authorities later found Dorr walking along a nearby street the next day. He was arrested and allegedly found with methamphetamine in his possession. He now faces multiple felony charges including first-degree intentional homicide, drug possession, animal mistreatment resulting in death, and resisting or obstructing an officer.

According to court documents, police arrived at the apartment to find the victim’s lifeless body with devastating injuries — including 27 stab wounds, most of them concentrated on his chest, head, and neck. An autopsy confirmed the extensive damage, describing 15 chest wounds and one to the face. Inside a bedroom, officers also found Benji, the victim’s small dog, stabbed to death and hidden beneath the bed.

Dorr’s account of what happened paints a chilling picture of a man in deep psychological distress. During police questioning, he reportedly confessed to the killings, stating plainly, “Yeah, I did, and his dog too.” He said he’d been having disturbing visions — hallucinations of his daughter and her mother being attacked — and felt like it was “the end of the world.”

There was no fight between him and the victim, he told police. In fact, he claimed they were getting along just fine. Dorr said he hadn’t eaten or drank water for two days as part of a spiritual fast, during which he began to experience intense, intrusive thoughts and lost touch with reality.

Before the police interview ended, Dorr admitted he didn’t know what day or month it was and acknowledged killing the dog, calling that action “stupid.”

The victim’s ex-wife told authorities that Dorr had been living with her former husband as a roommate or friend. The motive for the attack remains unclear beyond Dorr’s claims of hallucinations and spiritual reasoning.

Dorr pleaded not guilty to all charges during a court appearance on Monday. He is currently being held at Dodge Correctional Institution as the legal process moves forward.

What was meant to be a safe space for recovery turned into a crime scene — leaving behind grief, unanswered questions, and a small dog who was also a victim of senseless violence.
