Following his involvement in an automobile accident on the South Side of Chicago on Wednesday evening, an Illinois state trooper was taken to the hospital for treatment.
A red Ford sedan ran a red light and collided with the trooper’s squad car on the passenger side around 4:56 p.m., according to the police. The trooper was driving south on Wentworth Avenue near 51st Street, which is close to the Dan Ryan Expressway and also directly near the Chicago Police Wentworth Area Headquarters.
Every single one of the airbags exploded.
The officer was sent to a nearby medical facility. No information was available on Wednesday night regarding the severity of the trooper’s injuries.
Due to damage that rendered the squad car inoperable, it was necessary to have it towed away.
