North Chicago’s high-risk intersections and how to handle emergencies

In North Chicago, the area where Waukegan Rd and Buckley Rd meet is a busy spot that sees a lot of neighborhood and commuter traffic. Multi-vehicle accidents in these places often cause big delays and can be very dangerous because of fast speeds and quick lane changes.

Cases of entrapment, like the one described in this event, show how important it is for fire and rescue services to act quickly and help people. When more than one car is involved, it can be hard to figure out what happened and the investigations usually take longer to finish.

There have been more accidents involving multiple cars in Lake County, which is home to North Chicago. Regional data shows that these kinds of accidents tend to happen more often at crossings with wide turning zones and little space between the lanes.

Drivers are reminded to be careful at important intersections and to keep an eye out for cars that stop suddenly or swerve. Giving other drivers plenty of space and yielding at signs can greatly lower the chance of getting into a multi-car pileup.
