ICE Apprehends Over 200 Illegal Immigrants in Major NYC-Area Operation

More than two hundred migrants who entered the United States illegally were taken into custody by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) during an operation that took place in the New York City metropolitan region.

Acting Director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement Todd Lyons stated that the operation that took place the previous week “targeted the most dangerous alien offenders in some of the most crime-infested neighbourhoods.”

Over the course of a sweep in the New York City region, ICE made 206 arrests.

According to sources inside law enforcement, a total of 206 individuals were taken into custody, one of whom was a member of the Venezuelan Tren de Aragua gang who was 22 years old and was discovered inside a building located on Dekalb Avenue in the Bronx.

“New York is much safer today because of the hard work of ICE and our law enforcement partners,” Lyons stated in an interview.

According to the immigration enforcement agency, “121 of the 206 people apprehended had significant criminal convictions or are currently facing charges for crimes such as murder, assault, arson, sex crimes, drug crimes and firearms crimes.”

“The majority of the aliens who were arrested have egregious criminal histories,” stated Judith Almodovar, the acting field office director for ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations in New York City. These criminal histories include homicide, rape, assault, drug trafficking, and sexual assault against kids.

CBS News New York has sent an inquiry to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) regarding the criminal histories of the remaining 85 individuals.

Demonstrations by large crowds in front of the ICE headquarters in Foley Square

On Thursday, Mayor Eric Adams stated that the city is not permitted to work together with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for the purpose of civil enforcement. However, he made it quite clear that he is in favour of arresting violent members of gangs.

I don’t understand why we feel the need to romanticise the fact that violent gangs exist. “They are dangerous gangs, and we are going to do everything in our power to work together with federal officials in order to eradicate these dangerous gangs from our streets,” he stated. It was an undocumented individual who sexually assaulted a minor who was 14 years old. He does not have my support. When it comes to going after him, I’m on the side of justice.

The news of the arrests came at a time when demonstrators were getting ready to meet in New York City and other parts of the United States for a national “Communities Not Cages” day of action in response to the increase in detentions and deportations that have been carried out by the Trump administration.

A number of people gathered in front of the headquarters of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Foley Square expressed their displeasure with the administration, notably with the arrests of Mahmoud Khalil and Mohsen Mahdawi, two Columbia students who were in possession of green cards and who spearheaded pro-Palestinian meetings on campus.

Adam Brown, a professor at Hunter College, expressed his concern by saying, “It is really concerning when people are taken off the streets without due process taking place.” “I brought my kids here because I wanted them to see what democracy looks like.”

Notices of termination of parole are sent out by Homeland Security to individuals who do not have any criminal records.

The Department of Homeland Security is currently sending Notices of Termination Parole to solicitors and their clients who are in the United States unlawfully but do not have any criminal records. This news comes at the same time that the operation is being carried out.

The notices contained the following sentence in part: “Your parole will be terminated seven days from the date of this notice… If you do not leave the United States of America without delay, you will be subject to the possibility of being taken into custody by law authorities… In the event that you make an attempt to stay in the United States, the federal authorities will locate you.

According to Michael Wildes, an immigration attorney who had worked as a federal prosecutor, this is “very harsh rhetoric.”

“They’re looking for gimmicks and this whole thing is a gimmick,” he explained to reporters. The president will have removed almost two and a half million people from the country if the administration continues to remove approximately twelve thousand to one thousand and five hundred people per day. This area is home to approximately 30 million people. For the time being, it’s a drop in the bucket.”

The warning was delivered by Homeland Security to one of Wildes’s customers, who is now receiving treatment for cancer and is married to an American citizen, according to Wildes.

“It’s very disconcerting to our clients who were given some form of hospitality to immediately be told that they have to leave,” he explained to reporters.
