Fatal Collision on South U.S. 441 Leaves Pedestrian Dead, Driver Hospitalized

A person on foot was hit and killed by a car in southeast Marion County on April 18. What we know:

Where did the crash happen? On South U.S. 441 in the 15200 block of Summerfield.

What body is looking into the death? Florida’s highway police.

When did the crash happen? James Lucas, a spokesman for Marion County Fire Rescue, said that workers were sent to the crash at 1:19 p.m. and got there within two minutes. The person was taken to HCA Florida Ocala Hospital to get help. The victim, who was only named as a guy, died at the hospital, according to the police.

What took place? FHP officials said that a Chevrolet Silverado was pulling a trailer with a lot of different things on it, like buckets, concrete blocks and containers full of plumbing tools. The driver was a man from Inverness who was 57 years old.

The car was going south on U.S. 441 South in the outside lane. A person going south on the road near the right side of the white line was pushing a shopping cart.

Police said they don’t know if the person was in the road or not. He was hit by the pickup truck’s front right wheel. After being hit, the person on foot was thrown to the green shoulder on the west side of the road.

The driver was taken to get help at HCA Florida Summerfield Emergency. He was not in any danger. The driver had his 35-year-old son with him, who was also from Inverness. Authorities said he wasn’t hurt.

This is the fourth death of a walker in Marion County since March 27.
