Teen Brutally Kills Ex in Jealous Rage, Say Prosecutors

A “bubbly” and “outgoing” 16-year-old girl in Florida was killed by her ex-boyfriend. Police say the teen suspect used a “edged weapon” to kill the girl, who had just celebrated her birthday two weeks before, and then dumped her body in a nature preserve.

The 16-year-old Cameron Cubel from Hernando County was charged with first-degree murder by a grand jury last week. He is suspected of killing Abbriella Elliott before she was found at the Cypress Lake Preserve on March 27. This was announced by the office of the state attorney.

Prosecutors said in a press release on April 17 that Cubel killed Abbriella Faye Elliott unlawfully and on purpose by killing her with multiple sharp force injuries. “Cubel is still being held in a juvenile detention center without bond.” After that, he will be sent to Hernando County to be tried as an adult.

At a press conference in March, after Elliott’s body was found, police and State Attorney Bill Gladson said that the pair seemed to be working through problems they had after breaking up at some point.

Gladson said, “We do have signs of what I think could be called somewhat of a dysfunctional relationship.”

“One witness told us that this young woman left her house early in the morning.” “She went to meet someone who was probably the person who killed her,” Police Chief Al Nienhuis said. According to him, there was a lot of anger and violence in that specific death, which made them pretty sure it wasn’t an accident. “It was nothing less than violent.”

Elliott’s family also spoke at the news conference last month. They said she was “a bubbly, outgoing, smart, beautiful little girl” whose birthday was two weeks before she was killed. A GoFundMe page says, “She was always smiling.”

Gladson told the press, “It’s a heartbreaking case.” “Of course it’s hard, terrible, and tragic whenever someone is killed, but it’s especially tragic when it happens to a child, like this 16-year-old girl.”

The prosecutor for the state said it was easy to decide to charge Cubel as an adult. “If you’re a child and you commit an adult crime, you are charged as an adult,” Gladson told.

Gladson told parents that they should be more “involved” in their kids’ daily lives and talked about ways they can deal with similar situations.

“Be aware of that if you see them going down the path of having a boyfriend who is very possessive, jealous, or interested in other people,” the prosecutor said.

If found guilty, Cubel could spend the rest of his life in jail.
