An investigation conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration resulted in the detention of approximately 114 undocumented immigrants at a “underground nightclub” in the state of Colorado, according to the officials.
After a months-long investigation involving the Colorado Springs club, the raid that took place on Saturday night and continued into early Sunday morning, according to Jonathan Pullen, the special agent in charge of the Denver division of the Drug Enforcement Administration, more than one hundred individuals were taken into custody.
During a press conference, he stated that a few of the customers had been taken into custody on the basis of active state warrants. Two individuals have been taken into custody on the basis of warrants, according to the United States Attorney General Pam Bondi.
Additionally, according to Pullen, there were firearms, illegal substances, and over a dozen active-duty service personnel who were either serving as armed security or posing as customers inside the club.
“As you may suspect, when the cops showed up at the door, most of the drugs hit the floor, and we did find cocaine,” he explained to reporters. “We haven’t had time to test everything, but there were dozens of small packages.”
According to Pullen, members of the Army Criminal Investigation Division were present throughout the raid and were assisting with the investigation. In response to requests for comment made on Sunday evening, neither the division nor Army Public Affairs at Fort Carson, which is located nearby, provided an immediate response.
On social media, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) shared a video of the minutes leading up to the raid. In addition to displaying police enforcement officers dressed in tactical gear around the property, it also includes audio of warnings in both English and Spanish to anyone who are inside to leave the building in a peaceful manner.
Pullen asserted that the club, which was situated in what seemed to be a strip mall, was a place where drug sales and sex workers were conducted. He stated that law enforcement had been keeping a close eye on the events that took place there for some months.
“What was happening inside was significant drug trafficking, prostitution, crimes of violence,” Pullen explained to reporters. “We seized a number of guns in there.”
Through his statement that the authorities “actually have a few other operations pending” across the city, he gave the impression that the investigation that led to the raid was still ongoing.
A video of a portion of the raid was uploaded to the Truth Social account of President Donald Trump, who also made the accusation that some of the individuals who were taken up are murders and other violent felons. Among those who have been apprehended, the Drug Enforcement Administration has not identified anyone who is suspected of homicide.
As a result, Trump referred to it as “a big raid last night on some of the worst people illegally in our country.”
Bondi stated on X that members of the MS-13 gang, which was created in Los Angeles, as well as members of the Tren de Aragua gang, which is based in Venezuela, were taken into custody. Both of these gangs have been referred to as potential violent threats to the United States on multiple occasions, as the Trump administration continues to go forward with its crackdown on illegal immigration.
Based on the information provided by Pullen, agents who were conducting surveillance at the venue noticed individuals whom they suspect to be members of Tren de Agua and MS-13, in addition to members of the Hells Angels motorcycle gang.
Bondi lauded President Trump for “achieving results” in his goal to “make America safe again.”
Individuals who advocate for immigrants and lawyers who defend civil liberties have been concerned for a long time about large-scale roundups of persons who are suspected of being in the country illegally.
The Colorado Rapid Response Network, which assists immigrant communities by disseminating information about raids, has requested that family of people who have been detained remind them that they have the right to remain silent, that they are not required to sign any forms, and that they have the ability to request legal representation.
A statement made by the group on Facebook stated, “We do not know all the facts.”
Jose Dominguez, a partygoer, gave an interview in which he stated that police enforcement placed him and other individuals in handcuffs until their presence in the United States could be determined whether or not it was legal. A portion of the interview was broadcast on the NBC affiliate KUSA in Denver.
“Then they let me go,” he replied in response, “as if nothing happened.”
