As a result of a tree that fell on her family’s house during a fierce storm in Atlanta, a young girl of ten years old was tragically slain.
At approximately three o’clock in the morning on Saturday, the incident took place while a cold front was moving across Georgia, bringing with it storms and heavy rain.
The Atlanta Fire Department reported that the tree had broken in half and crashed on the house, which was located in the southwest region of the city. According to Atlanta News First, the event resulted in the death of Erica Dixon, a student at KIPP WAYS Academy who was in the fourth elementary grade.
Both the girl’s mother and grandmother were injured and were sent to a local hospital for treatment when they were taken there. In both cases, a recovery is anticipated.
The American Red Cross has been notified to provide assistance to the residents of the residence, who have not been identified by the fire department officials. The officials stated that there were six individuals living in the home.
In an interview with the publication, Dixon’s sister Akiylah Dixon, who is 14 years old, recalled the incident as follows: “The house suddenly started shaking. At that moment, everything came crashing down, and all I could see was my mother rushing through the corridor to get to my grandmother,” she recalled. Due to the fact that it wasn’t simply my younger sister, I experienced a severe emotional breakdown. Yes, that was my closest companion.
Governor Brian Kemp of Georgia issued the following comment in a written statement that was published on Saturday to X: “This morning, we are saddened by the tragic passing of this young girl as a result of the storms that occurred last night.” We would like to request that all Georgians join us in praying for her family and friends at this trying time.
At the beginning of this month, severe storms struck several regions in the South and the Midwest, resulting in the deaths of at least 19 people. These storms were characterized by a succession of historic rainfalls, flash flooding, and powerful winds.
According to reports from the National Weather Service, there were 73 million individuals who were covered by flood warnings at the time.
