2 Teens Charged After Fake Bomb, Shooting Threat Triggers Ventura High School Lockdown

Teenagers at Ventura High School were charged with crimes after making a fake bomb and shooting threat that made the school lock down.

The Ventura County District Attorney’s Office said that the teens who were suspected could only be two 15-year-old boys because they were still minors.

At 12:38 p.m. on May 2, school staff got a threatening phone call saying that someone was on campus with a bomb and planned to kill someone.

The building was put on lockdown right away after school officials called the police. The school told all of its students and workers to stay put.

At one point, Sky5 video showed kids being led out of buildings and to the school parking lot.

Ventura Police arrived at the spot and started to look into what happened. Later, it was found that the two 15-year-olds were the ones who had called. They were caught after being found.

It was alleged that both teens spread fake information about a bomb, planned to commit a crime, and made criminal threats.

The Ventura County DA’s Office filed a juvenile case against each suspect on May 5. Both of them went to youth court on Wednesday.

The trial of one suspect was pushed back to May 21. The other suspect rejected all the charges, and a hearing is set for May 27 in juvenile court. Both of them are still being held at the Oxnard Juvenile Justice Centre.

“All threats to hurt people on our school grounds will be taken very seriously,” said Maureen Byrne, supervisor of the Juvenile Unit. Students and staff at Ventura High School were scared for their safety after a bomb and gun threat was made against the school. Our office wants to make sure that school grounds are safe for kids.
