It seems like TWO favorite restaurants close every other day, leaving all of us customers asking what the heck happened?! It’s been going around for a while that a chain quietly shut down stores in several states. Kids and adults have loved this restaurant for years, but now everyone wants to know where it went!
It turns out to be Buca di Beppo, a famous Italian chain known for serving food in a family-style way and having a lively setting. The chain has now closed both of its Utah sites, in Salt Lake City and Midvale. For many people, it was a great place to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, and other events. Utah isn’t the only one. In the U.S., Buca di Beppo has been cutting back on its business, closing restaurants in a number of states over the last few months.

WHY ARE SO MANY LOCATIONS CLOSING?
The restaurants that have closed like Buca di Beppo are following a trend. This year, Red Lobster filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Now, Buca di Beppo is also having a hard time. Due to tight finances, especially in this tough economic environment, the company has had to close some locations and restructure while it is in bankruptcy.
It’s not a surprise that this is happening because rising prices have made eating out a luxury that many people are cutting back on, which has a big effect on restaurants’ bottom lines.
Because the economy isn’t helping…
Buca di Beppo is still having trouble with money and the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic are still being felt. The company said in court documents that the pandemic cut down on customer demand, making it hard to get back to making money in some places. That, along with the current state of the economy, is why so many places have had to shut down.
In Utah, there are no longer any Buca di Beppo restaurants. In California, there are still 15, but that number is also going down.
