At 5:40 p.m. on Sunday, Hollywood Police were called to the corner of Sheridan Street and North 40th Avenue to help with a crash involving two cars.
“At this time, we can confirm that, unfortunately, one person has died, and others were transported to Memorial Regional Hospital,” officials said.
According to witnesses, a pickup truck and another car crashed into each other. When the truck flipped over, it fell on its side in the road. The other car caught fire when it hit the wall of a private neighbourhood.
The traffic murder unit of the Hollywood Police Department is looking into what happened. The intersection is still closed in both ways while police work on the scene.
The state health department says that at least four people have died this year in South Florida car accidents with fires. One of them died in Miami-Dade County, and the other three died in Broward County. The person who died on Sunday would be the fifth person to die in a crash caused by a car fire.
