An inquiry is still being conducted into a terrible find that occurred in Westlake on Monday. The bodies of a man and a woman were discovered inside of an encampment tent.
As a result of the fact that the tent was locked from the inside, the daughter of the deceased woman was compelled to rip through the canvas on Huntley Drive, according to many witnesses. Within the premises, the police discovered a guy and a woman, both of whom were accompanied by dogs that were consuming the deceased.
It was reported by residents who live in close proximity to the campsite that the girl had been searching for her mother for several days.
When a daughter and her brother discover that their mother is inside the tent, the video that was uploaded on Instagram captures the painful moment when they are unable to find any solace in comfort.
Harrison Redd, who lives in close proximity to the encampment, expressed his sympathy for the daughter by saying, “I definitely feel for the daughter because I saw her very emotional throughout the entire ordeal.”
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner was able to determine that the deceased woman was Lucrecia Macias Barajas, who was 46 years old. According to her relatives, she was a mother of six children and a veteran who served in the United States Army. They have begun a fundraising campaign for her funeral.
In spite of the fact that she feels terrible for the woman who passed away, Francis Jacobs-Bailey, who lives in the neighborhood, believes that the city should take additional steps to keep people off the streets.
“The issue with the homeless people in this area had left us feeling quite exhausted. Bailey said that this is a very pleasant neighborhood location. They sell illegal substances in this area. It is novel. I have been a resident of this location for seven years. In the past, this has never occurred. Never, ever, never, without a doubt. So I really hope that somebody takes action. This issue must be brought to the attention of the city.
The encampment is located in a cul-de-sac, and residents of an apartment complex that is adjacent to it have described it as being similar to a drive-through in which drugs are sold. NBC4 has been informed by neighbors that they have made multiple phone calls to the city, but they have not received any response.
There is a notice that states that camping or sleeping on the sidewalk is not permitted, and the tent that the dead were discovered in is below the sign. Residents assert that they have not received responses to their calls to the police and the city to enforce the sign.
The distressing discovery was made on the same day that Governor Gavin Newsom issued a call to cities and counties to address encampments. This move signified an increase in the state’s attempts to prohibit the increasing number of makeshift camps that are being set up on sidewalks and in parks.
“Time to do your job, people are dying on their watch,” stated California Governor Newsom.
An official statement was issued by Councilmember Eunisses Hernandez, who represents the district, about the murders and the encampments. The statement included the following passage:
This is a terrible and unfathomable tragedy, and our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and the people who know and care about them. For the purpose of responding to this disaster and ensuring that the communities who have been impacted have access to the services they require, our office is collaborating closely with city agencies and community partners.
