A 32-year-old man from Montana has been arrested on charges of killing a 62-year-old cripple by drugging him, dousing him with petrol and setting him on fire inside a mobile home while he was still alive because he was said something about a 13-year-old girl. Authorities said that James A. Hosey was arrested on Monday and charged with one count of deliberate murder, arson, theft, and tampering with evidence in connection with the death of Michael Lee Huston.
On Saturday, May 10, 2025, around 7 a.m., the Yellowstone County Sheriff’s Office said that officers and firefighters were called to the 200 block of Jim Street because there was a report of a structure fire. After the fire was put out, an investigation found a dead body inside the house, which was later believed to be Huston.
A press statement says that there was evidence at the scene of the crime that suggested foul play played a role in the death. “Investigators were able to find a person of interest and give details about the car that person might have been driving.” The person and the car were found in Big Horn County by a Montana Highway Patrol trooper, who arrested the person just after noon on Saturday.
Following the death, an autopsy revealed that the subject had been killed. The news statement did not say what caused the death.
Later, that person was found to be Hosey from Billings, Montana. The “emergency locate” feature on his mobile helped the police find and arrest him at the Love’s Travel Stop near Hardin, Montana.
According to court papers that Great Falls, Montana got, a petrol station worker was the first person to tell the police that Hosey might have been involved in Huston’s death. She talked to Hosey on the day of the fire and said he was a regular customer who told her he had tied someone up and set them on fire.
Billings NBC outlet KULR reported that the gas station worker said Hosey said he had “smoked a pedo.”
Hosey is also said to have called a friend in Michigan and told him that he had just killed Huston because of something the victim supposedly said about a girl who wasn’t old enough to understand.
Court records show that Hosey told his friend, “I went over, got him high and about to pass out, tied him up, beat him up, poured gas into the house and set fire to him.”
Hosey pleaded not guilty to all of the above charges when he went to Yellowstone County District Court on Thursday to see Judge Jeanne Walker. Online records show that he is being held at the Yellowstone County Detention Facility on a $500,000 bond right now.
