When Anibal Rocheta and his wife, Maria Teresa Lopes, left Venezuela as political refugees in 2015, they knew they were leaving familiarity behind — moving to a country where they had no support system and barely spoke the language.
They chose Portland to start anew, Rocheta said, mainly because of the mountains.
