Body Matching Not Found Student at the University of Colorado Boulder Megan Trussell Got Better

Authorities say a body that fits the description of a University of Colorado student who was last seen was found in Boulder Canyon in a “hard-to-reach” spot.

The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office said that around 10:40 a.m. local time on Saturday, rangers from the City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks told the police that a dead woman had been found near the 40-mile sign of Boulder Canyon.

When police got there, they found a body that looked like Megan Trussell, 18, who had been missing since February 9. On Sunday, a GoFundMe page that was meant to help find her changed its purpose to honor her life. “We will always cherish the memories of Megan’s vibrant spirit and the love she shared with us,” he wrote.

The sheriff’s office said in a statement Saturday, “The decedent’s name is not being released at this time, pending identification confirmation and notification of next of kin.” “The Boulder County Coroner’s Office will also determine the cause and manner of death.”

According to the sheriff’s office, the body was found in “hard-to-reach terrain” where first responders had to rappel and do a technical escape.

A University of Colorado student who went missing was last seen on campus.

Three different police departments say that Trussell was last seen on the University of Colorado Boulder campus on February 9 at around 10 p.m. The police said she was an indigenous woman with brown eyes and red hair.

In a blue or gray jacket, dark or red yoga pants, and white platform shoes, she was last seen at her on-campus residence hall, police said. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation says she also had a “distinct” blue bag with a pink star on it.

According to the CU Boulder Police Department, Trussell has been missing since Thursday. They said they are working with “local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies and first responders on campus, on the ground, and in the air.”

The FBI field office in Denver also said it was helping to find her. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation put out a statewide Missing Indigenous Person Alert for Trussell on Friday.

Judy Brocato, a family friend of the Trussell family, told Denver7 that Trussell’s phone had rang in Boulder Canyon the night she took off. Brocato helped with the search on Saturday with other people.

Denver7 says that Brocato said Trussell “wasn’t much of a hiker” and that it was cold that night. The National Weather Service in Boulder said that parts of Colorado were hit by a strong storm system over the weekend, which brought cold weather and times of heavy snow.
