Kentucky freshman forward Bryce Hopkins had his breakthrough game Wednesday vs. LSU, scoring 13 points in the second half of Kentucky’s comeback victory.

Before Wednesday’s 13 point effort, Hopkins’ last basket came vs. Mississippi State on January 25.

With Kentucky shorthanded due to Sahvir Wheeler and TyTy Washington recovering from injuries, John Calipari gave Hopkins a chance vs. the Tigers.

“Well, that’s one thing coach always tells us: To wait for our opportunity. Today was mine and I just took advantage of that,” Hopkins said. “I was staying in the gym, just kept on working on my game and today was the day I finally broke through.”

All season long, Hopkins had watched his teammates have breakout moments but this time it was his turn.

“It was encouraging. I mean seeing Daimion [Collins] go out there against Alabama – I was very proud of him. We all were. We’re a brotherhood here and a family, so we’re all excited for each other whenever somebody goes in and does well. Tonight, my guys were proud of me for going in and picking up where I left off.”

Hopkins teammates went to Twitter postgame to talk about their teammate.
