Continued cooling Thursday as Portland sees scattered clouds; high 75

Portland’s cooling trend continues with another mostly sunny day Thursday with high temperatures expected to stay around 75 degrees.

Wednesday never made it to 79 as cooler air from the coast infiltrated the valleys and brought some clouds into the metro area.

The National Weather Service says a persistent onshore flow regime will keep temperatures close to average for this time of year. We can expect mainly dry weather through the weekend, except along the coast early Thursday and again on Friday morning when light drizzle may fall.

Portland’s high temperatures will dip below average Friday as a passing shortwave brings in deeper marine clouds and cooler air. Areas north of Salem, including Portland, will see heavy morning clouds that eventually clear off to a mostly sunny day. The high will only be about 70 degrees — the perfect time to tackle a yard work project, go on a long hike, or take a cool bike ride.

Temperatures warm back up over the weekend with Saturday seeing sunny skies and a high near 76 degrees.

Father’s Day is looking to be the warmest day of the past five with highs likely to reach about 80. Portland even has a 20%-40% chance of getting warmer than 80 on Sunday.

Extended forecasts are showing chances of light rain next week, but Monday is likely to stay dry with highs in the upper 70s. Current chances of 48-hour rain amounts of 0.1 inch or more stand at 20%-40% from early Monday through 5 a.m. Wednesday.
