After lawmakers threatened to eliminate the program, Multnomah County Chair Jessica Vega Pederson steadfastly defended the local initiative that provides tuition-free preschool on Tuesday.
Some Democratic lawmakers made an impromptu proposal that would have completely shut down the highly criticized Preschool for All program by 2027 and cut off most of its financing beginning the following year.
