MORRISTOWN, N.J. (GBBC)
Two people were robbed at gunpoint in Morristown, N.J. after they were followed from New York City on Saturday, according to authorities.
It happened near Windmill Pond around 8 a.m. A group of men, who have yet to be identified, were seen by a witness getting out of a dark-colored SUV, police said.
The group then robbed the two victims, who were in another vehicle, according to authorities. They’re accused of stealing money and personal items from the victims, police said.
Investigators believe that the suspects were able to follow the couple from Manhattan by observing their movements throughout the evening. It’s unclear how exactly the criminals managed to track the couple, but it’s believed they may have been watching them during their time in the city.
The fact that this robbery occurred after the victims crossed state lines has raised additional concerns about criminals using sophisticated methods to follow and target individuals traveling between major cities like New York and New Jersey. Authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant, especially during late-night travels when they might be at a higher risk of being targeted.
Local authorities have already launched a full-scale investigation into the robbery. Police are reviewing surveillance footage from nearby areas and working with traffic cameras to trace the suspects’ movements. They are also gathering witness accounts in hopes of identifying the robbers, who are said to have fled the scene in a dark-colored sedan.
