University of Kentucky senior linebacker Courtney Love was named the winner of the 2017 Wuerrfel Trophy. The award is given to college football’s top community servant and there is no one more deserving than Love. He was presented with the award this morning in New York at the National Football Foundations Press Conference.

The Wuerrfel Trophy is an annual award presented to a college athlete that is active in serving the community. The award is named after 1996 Heisman Trophy winner Danny Wuerrfel.

Love, a native of Youngstown, OH., is a leader on and off the field for the Wildcats. He leads the team in community service hours and currently volunteers with Amachi Central Kentucky, which is a mentoring program where he provides a positive influence for children.

The UK linebacker ranks second on the team in tackles this season with 82, along with being a game captain for all twelve games. He recorded a career-best 10 tackles came in a win vs. Missouri earlier this season.

His classroom performance matches his on-field ability. Love was named to the 2016 SEC Academic Honor Roll and graduated last May with a degree in community service and leadership development. Additionally, earlier this season he received the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team award, which was presented to him at a surprise event in Lexington.

Love will play one final game in a Kentucky jersey, as the Wildcats will face No. 21 Northwestern in the Music City Bowl on Friday, December 29th. Kickoff is set for 4:30 ET from Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee.
