Dad Who Murdered Ex-Wife at Speedway Learns His Fate in Court

A man in Indiana, 34 years old, is likely to spend the rest of his life in prison for stalking and killing his ex-wife, 33 years old. Two years ago, he followed her to a Speedway gas station in a stolen car and shot her more than a dozen times.

Records show that on Wednesday, Superior Court Judge David K. Najjar sentenced Joshua Farmer to 80 years in a state prison for killing Kaylah Ann Farmer in 2023. It was last month that Joshua Farmer made a deal with the prosecutors. He admitted to one count of murder and one count of stalking with a dangerous weapon. In return for his guilty plea, he was not charged with criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon or carrying a gun without a permit.

Najjar gave the person a sentence of 65 years for murder and 15 years for stalking, which they will serve one after the other. The judge also said Farmer would not get any credit for time he had already spent.

A report from Indianapolis NBC affiliate WTHR says that during the emotional sentencing meeting, some of the victim’s family members read statements about how the crime affected them.

Tracey Walser, the victim’s mother, is said to have told the court, “No sentence will ever bring her back or erase the pain we live with every single day.” “But a fair sentence can help us get better.” Finally being able to move forward knowing that the person guilty has been caught can help.

Alisha Landis, one of Kaylah Farmer’s sisters who recently adopted three children from Joshua Farmer, also spoke to the crowd.

She is said to have said, “This is the last time I or anyone in our family will acknowledge you.” “You will be forgotten from our lives after this hearing is over.” You don’t have any kids. You have no heirs. The boys you used to hang out with will never call you by your name again. I’ll make sure no one remembers you for the rest of my life. Gone. Goodbye. You won’t be able to control me or Kaylah’s kids here.

People say that Joshua Farmer decided to stay quiet when he was given the chance to speak.

As was already said, around 5 p.m. on June 28, 2023, the Fishers Police Department got a call about a shooting at the Speedway gas station near 116th Street and Allisonville Road, which is about 20 miles northeast of Indianapolis.

When first responders got to the scene, they said they saw an adult woman, later named as Kaylah Ann Farmer, who looked like she had been shot several times while sitting in a red Chrysler van. The police said she was dead at the scene.

In a probable cause affidavit, police said they had security footage from the gas station that showed Farmer pulling into the business soon after his ex-wife and “completely just unloaded [his gun] into her window,” according to WTHR, an NBC affiliate in Indianapolis. The police say that a witness told them that they heard “30 to 40 total shots” being fired during the attack.

When Farmer reportedly surprised his ex-wife, he was driving a Kia Soul that belonged to someone else. It was either orange or maroon. Police said that Farmer had been following Kaylah Farmer all day before the shooting. He finally decided to attack her when she stopped for gas on her way home from work.

After the fact, an autopsy showed that Kaylah Farmer had “more than 15 gunshot wounds” all over her body. One cop who was watching said that “over 25 bullet fragments were removed from Kaylah’s body,” which is what the affidavit says.

Detectives from several police departments were keeping an eye on the area of the shooting the day after it happened. The affidavit says that one of them saw “a pair of shoes behind a growth of shrubs and got out of his vehicle.” The officer said he went up to the bush, looked at the person, and told them his name was Joshua Farmer. Farmer was told to get on the ground and was arrested without any problems.

Records show that before killing his ex-wife, Farmer was arrested on June 5 and charged with 10 crimes, such as confinement, strangulation, domestic battery, intimidating, and pointing a gun.

In court documents filed by prosecutors in Hamilton County Superior Court, they reportedly said that everyone knew that Kaylah Farmer’s husband beat her up and that she wore a lot of makeup to hide the bruises on her face and neck from being choked and punched.

Farmer went before a judge on a number of charges from May 2023, one day after he was arrested for murder. In those charges, he was accused of attacking Kaylah Farmer. The 11-year-old son of Farmer told cops that he heard his father “start choking Kaylah to the point he could hear her struggling to breathe.” The child is said to have said that he “heard the accused punching” his mother on the stairs of their house for a long time.

WTHR reported that the boy also told police about a very upsetting time when his father put him and his mother in chairs facing each other. That’s when the child said his dad grabbed a gun, put it to his mom’s head, and “asked mom to choose between herself or him.”
