Double SSI Checks Coming in May 2025: Are You Eligible?

Double SSI Checks Coming in May 2025: Are You Eligible?

There are times in May when some people who get Social Security could get two or even three checks in the mail.

People who get Supplemental Security Income (SSI) checks will get two checks in May: one for May and one for June. This is because of a problem with the calendar used by the Social Security Administration (SSA).

SSI gives monthly payments to about 7.4 million Americans with disabilities or few resources. About one-third of these SSI users also get a Social Security payment.

During May, these people will get three checks from the government.

Traditional Social Security checks for seniors or retirees are sent to most recipients every Wednesday of the month.

In May 2025, who can get up to two checks?

You will get paid on the second Wednesday of every month if your birthday is between the first and tenth of the month. This month, that night, May 14, is that Wednesday. The SSA calendar says that if you were born between May 11 and 20, you will be paid on May 21. If you were born after May 20, you will be paid on May 28.

People who started getting Social Security benefits before May 1997 get paid on the third of every month. If they also get SSI, their SSI income comes on the first of the month.

People who get SSI will get two checks in May, just like they did in February. The SSA’s plan says that the May SSI payment will be made on May 1, and the June payment will be made on May 30. Because June 1 is a weekend, the cash is sent out early.

This means that SSI users will not get paid in June, just like they did in March.

  • Thursday, May 1, 2025 (check for May 2025)
  • Friday, May 30, 2025 (check made in June 2025)

This strange event in the schedule happens again in August, when people who get SSI will get two checks: one on August 1 and one on August 29. There is no payment in September.

The SSA plan also says that people who get SSI will get two checks in October but none in November.
