WETHERSFIELD – According to authorities, a trapped motorist was rescued from a vehicle that was engulfed in flames following a crash on the Berlin Turnpike early Saturday.
At around 12:10 a.m. Saturday, police were dispatched to the intersection of the Berlin Turnpike and Pawtucket Avenue for a reported two-car crash. According to a news release issued Monday by the Wethersfield Police Department, an officer was able to break the glass of a burning Infiniti Q70 and pull the driver to safety.
Medical and fire services were also dispatched, and both drivers involved in the accident were brought to a nearby hospital, according to police. According to police, the driver’s injuries were not life-threatening.

While investigating the crash, authorities learned that the Infiniti Q70 was traveling north on the Berlin Turnpike when it “disregarded the traffic signal” while attempting to turn east on Pawtucket Avenue, colliding with a southbound Audi Q8.
According to authorities, the driver of the Infiniti was ticketed for exceeding the speed limit and failing to obey a control signal.
Police are still looking into the event.
