Another family is in mourning after losing two loved ones in a weekend collision.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Melissa Rosales, 20, was suspected of driving drunk when she collided with another vehicle on State Route 165, just south of Turner Avenue.
“Another stupid DUI, another 20-year-old heading home. I’m guessing she was driving while intoxicated, and as I previously stated, we now have a family with two deceased members,” said Officer Eric Zuniga of the California Highway Patrol in Merced.
Those people are now identified as Noah Reyes, 13, and his father, Adrian Reyes, 40.
According to Action News, Adrian adored his children and always went above and above for them. He will be remembered as a dedicated worker, devoted spouse, and loving father.
They also claim that his son, Noah, has a large heart. He enjoyed playing basketball with his buddies, having dogs, going to the beach, and listening to Tupac Shakur’s music.
Officer Eric Zuniga is frustrated that this type of tragic tragedy is occurring again.
“This is the second weekend in a row we’ve had something like this, and we need to stop,” Officer Zuniga said.
Last Saturday, the CHP reported that 28-year-old Abraham Bustos Guzman died on Highway 99 in Atwater after attempting to assist a stranger in need.
He pulled over to assist a car in distress and was then struck by an alleged intoxicated driver.
“Nowadays you have so many options out there, you have lift you have taxis, I’m pretty sure if you call somebody they’ll pick you up, so there’s no reason to be doing this,” according to Officer Zuniga.
Law enforcement’s advice remains consistent: have a strategy when you go out.
“That’s the thing, don’t drink and drive,” Officer Zuniga stated.
The CHP says the suspect in this weekend’s crash was brought to the hospital with serious injuries.
After being released, she will face felony DUI and vehicular manslaughter charges.
