Florida Nurse Arrested for Abusing Disabled 18-Year-Old Woman

An individual who was a home health nurse in Florida has been arrested on allegations of mistreating a disabled lady who was 18 years old and under her care.

According to a press release issued by the St. Cloud Police Department, Nia Ayers, who is 24 years old, was charged with aggravated abuse of the elderly or disabled after unsettling evidence from home security cameras was turned over to the police.

During the period that Ayers was caring for the victim, who was a non-verbal quadriplegic lady diagnosed with cerebral palsy, the victim was reportedly subjected to several assaults. It has been reported by the police that Ayers was recorded on video repeatedly taping the mouth of the young woman shut and then pulling the tape off each time.

She was also observed “shaking the nonverbal patient’s biPAP breathing machine while the device was connected to the patient’s nose,” according to the announcement. She was also seen holding a washcloth to cover the victim’s lips.

According to the police, the mother of the lady saw wounds and scrapes on her daughter’s face, which prompted her to study the film from her home camera and get in touch with the authorities.

A statement made by Chief of Police Douglas Goerke stated that “this is a truly heinous act.” The individual who is the victim in this scenario is absolutely incapable of defending herself or pleading for assistance.

On May 7, Ayers brought herself into the custody of the St. Cloud Police Department, and the following day, she was booked into the Osceola County Department of Corrections facilities. At the moment, she is being held without security or bond.
